Sod Installation
A new lawn done right, from the soil up.
Sod is the fastest way to go from bare dirt or a failed lawn to green grass. But sod only succeeds if the ground under it is prepared properly — that's where most do-it-yourself sod jobs go wrong.
Our process starts below the surface: removing old turf and weeds, grading, and amending the soil so roots can actually establish in Colorado's heavy clay. Then we lay fresh sod with tight seams and clean edges.
After installation, we give you a simple watering and first-mow plan so the sod knits into the soil instead of drying out. New sod needs consistent moisture in the first few weeks, and we'll spell out exactly what that means for your yard.
With 20+ years working in Denver-area soils, we know the difference good prep makes. We'd rather do it right once than have you call us back about a lawn that never rooted.

What 20+ years here taught us
Along the Front Range, sod establishes best in spring or early fall, when cool-season grasses root aggressively and heat stress is lower.
Kentucky bluegrass and tall fescue blends are the dominant sod choices here because they handle our zone 5b–6a winters.
New sod needs more frequent watering while it roots — if your city has summer watering rules (like Denver Water's three-days-a-week guidance), check whether your utility allows a temporary new-lawn permit or exception.
Common questions
- When is the best time to lay sod in Colorado?
- Spring and early fall are the best windows on the Front Range. Summer installation is possible but demands very attentive watering; mid-winter installation generally isn't practical.
- How soon can I walk on new sod?
- Keep foot traffic off it for the first couple of weeks while the roots knit into the soil. We'll give you specific guidance for your installation, including when to do the first mow.
- Is sod better than seeding?
- It depends on your goals. Sod gives you a usable lawn much faster and controls erosion right away; seeding costs less up front but takes longer and is riskier in our dry climate. We'll help you compare both during your estimate.
